Spring Is in the Hair
Whimsical adornments of spring.
I love a theme or holiday as an excuse to adorn my hair with something playful. During the first year of the pandemic, I somehow fell down the rabbit hole of collecting (mostly) vintage hair accessories. The more fun, nostalgic, and kitsch the better. It’s become one of my favorite ways to add a little unexpected touch of whimsy. Springtime is pretty much over in the Northern Hemisphere, so I thought to share a few of my favorite seasonal hair accessories before summer officially begins. Better late than never, I suppose.
The charms of spring.
Childlike playfulness is always a good idea!
I look around at people my age, specifically xennials and millennials (I strongly claim Gen X because I was born in the 70s, but because it was the late 70s, I fall into the micro-generation category), and it seems that we never grew into becoming bona fide grown-ups. Ha! Especially when compared to boomers who went straight into serious adulting right out of high school. I wouldn’t call my generation immature, though. We just unabashedly embrace whimsy! Anything that reminds us of our analog childhood feels comforting. At least that’s how it is for me.
Fleurette believes that it’s essential to take joy whenever you can! Wearing cutesy hair barrettes or securing an updo with a statement claw clip or decorative French comb is an amusing and lighthearted form of visual expression. I’m inspired by people who wear quirky and eclectic style with pride. It’s like their confidence gives others permission to welcome self-expression, too.
Be it elegant or kitsch, hip or square, plain or fancy. It’s fun to adorn your hair with something a bit unexpected to uplift and brighten your, or perhaps someone else’s, day.
It’s the little things.
Et voilà!
