13 Dragonfly Lane

Situated on the edge of a beautiful hilly city overlooking the sea, is a lovely corner unit townhouse located at 13 Dragonfly Lane. Not too very far from the hub of the city, it sits on a quiet tree-lined lane that leads to a park with gently rolling landscapes, fragrant blossoms, majestic trees and plenty of paths for strolling. The neighborhood is known for its unparalleled ocean views, vintage boutiques and tasty cafes. The neighbors are a friendly bunch with a good mix of locals and transplants. In general, all is pretty peaceful in this magical corner of the world.

Terrcotta roof tiles, peachy pink stucco, and vibrant Bougainvillea. It’s a California dream!

It may look ordinary at first glance, as far as everyday modern 1:6 scale living goes, but upon closer inspection (and with an open heart and mind) you will catch a glimpse of Fairyland. Dolls don’t have the full magical powers of fairies, of course, but their worlds are very closely related and intertwined. The flora, fauna and dolls all communicate with one another and are capable of forming close friendships and alliances. The city fairies are playful and glamorous, but it’s the fairies of the secluded woodlands who the dolls go to when in need of sage advice. Whether by car on a beautiful scenic highway or a short flight by feathered friend, it’s easy to access the fairies of the nearby Redwoods, Live Oaks and coastal Cypress Trees.

As they say: location, location, location!

It really is everything.

During her many travels, Fleurette’s heart has been captured by different places all over the world, but she has truly learned to appreciate the state in which she was raised. There’s just something so special about California, and she feels lucky to call it home. She lives with her toy poodle called Bunny, and her mother (who enjoys extended stays in between retirement adventures). It’s a spacious yet cozy home that includes two bedroom suites, a large bathroom, a formal living and dining room, a combined eat-in kitchen and snug, a fitness studio, a rooftop garden with views of the mighty Pacific, and a witchy room (because what is doll life without a little bit of mystical magic). The rooms are being renovated one-by-one, and unlike some of the money pit horror stories she’s heard about in the human realm (especially from her very own human), the doll home improvement project has been delightful… so far!

Welcome to 13 Dragonfly Lane.

Though she is a highly sensitive introvert and mostly keeps to herself, she is kind to those she meets. She has several acquaintances, but her inner circle is small. Her friends, neighbors and surroundings are not just made up of stylish plastic, but also of felted wool and other kinds of fabric stitched together with love and whimsy. For example, here we have Holly Hedgehog, a much beloved baked goods connoisseur. She was once featured on a popular morning television show, and now her bakery is famous, drawing in costumers from all over the world.

Holly Hedgehog is always happy to show off her award winning macarons and baguettes.

Fresh baked and delivered right to your door!

And there’s Timothy Mouse, a true local going back generations, who lives in one of the city’s most historic homes. He lost his whiskers in a terrible house fire a long time ago, but he doesn’t like to talk much about that horrible day. He has received the title of honorary mayor for his bravery and continued community service. He carries his key to the city with pride.

Shy but curious Felicity Fawn lives in the city’s most enchanted park, Cypress Grove. It’s one of those hidden gems of green that’s a bit wild and so tucked away that it’s easy to forget where you are. Naturally, it’s also where most of the city’s fairy population lives. The dense rolling fog that flows through the park makes Felicity feel safe and hidden. She looks most forward to the annual Winter Feast of the Mushrooms Festival that comes around each December when the moon is just right. For the fae folk, it’s the see and be seen event of the year. She may be timid, but she’s also a determined and athletic little deer. Fingers (or should I say hooves) crossed that she makes the cut for the ultimate around-the-world sleigh team, that takes flight every year on the night of the winter solstice.

So many surreal things happen at this park that it’s developed a bit of an urban legend about it. Something about secret portals to an alternate world, ghostly apparitions that wander the night, and other eerie things that the city residents speak of in hushed tones. The young ones are always up to great mischief in the park during spooky season, but it’s mostly in good fun. Though one year, due to a prank gone wrong, the entire city was on pins and needles, and the many dolls and animals were too afraid to even leave their homes.

And down the hill from Fleurette and much closer to the beach lives Treenia, a longtime doll friend who is always ready for endless cups of tea, nourishing chats and long walks on the beach. She’s a practitioner of the old ways and spends her days in deep connection with Spirit. She loves to support local business and is an advocate for seasonal living. You will often find her at the farmers’ market on the weekends in search of fresh ingredients for healthy meals, or gathering with friends at the yoga studio for gentle, restorative movement and meditation.

When Treenia and Fleurette get together, they love to talk about all things woo and wonder, such as the mysteries of life and the unseen . There are so may thoughts and feelings to process and make sense of, and they each can depend on the other to lend a listening, non-judgemental ear and big dose of support. They are grateful for their decades-long connection and for being witness to their different chapters of life. It’s so good to know of those, near or far, who are there for the long-haul.

It’s always tea o’clock!

Whether a cozy day at home or a night on the town, this magical place has so many ordinary moments and adventures to share.
